Other artificial languages

Like Esperanto, these are also known as constructed languages, or “conlangs.”

Talossa. The language of the Kingdom of Talossa, which is located near Lake Michigan and “seceded peacefully from the United States in 1979 (but we’re not sure the United States noticed).”

Toki Pona. This language “simplifies ideas to their most basic elements. If you are hungry, you ‘want eat.’ To teach is to ‘give knowledge.’ Training your mind to think in Toki Pona can lead to deeper insights.”

Lojban. This is an “experiment in human language – a constructed language based on formal logic.”

Basic English. “If one were to take the 25,000 word Oxford Pocket English Dictionary and take away the redundancies of our rich language and eliminate the words that can be made by putting together simpler words, we find that 90% of the concepts in that dictionary can be achieved with 850 words.”
