@Cocoron
Well there sort of IS a free alternative to #Duolingo, and it's not just for language learning. It is a spaced-repetition flashcard program that is brilliant.
Start by signing up for an Anki account here:
https://ankiweb.net/about
Anki is not open-source AFAIK, but is free by-donation software.
Once you have an Anki account, put Anki clients on your computers and devices, as desired. Then create your own decks, or download shared decks that other people have made and contributed. There are tons of language-learning decks that are free for you to grab and use. Some even have a sound file attached to each flashcard. Flashcards can incorporate images, too.
You can create your own decks, add flashcards to them, then share your decks with the rest of the world, if you wish. Or you can not share, and the deck will be only for you.
I use Anki for learning so many different things.

Do you have other sources for shared decks asides the central repo? I have been trying to find Spanish pronunciation decks.
